12 May Thanks Mom Postcard #11

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms who are reading this post today. Your job is the most difficult job in the world with no  paid vacation days and no sick days. But from every Mom I have spoken to it is the most rewarding job in the world.

Today, I am very thankful for my Mom who always encouraged me to follow my dreams and always be whoever I was meant to be. Who always made me feel loved and beautiful and would listen when I needed to vent about friends or boys.

She encouraged my creativity and always wanted to provide me with the tools to experiment as a child. And when I didn’t have the tools, well, I just made my own things from what I had on hand. Such as the time I created a cash register from an old cardboard box complete with a functioning cash drawer and used some masking tape to tape a solar powered calculator to the top as the adding machine. She always encouraged my imagination and my love of writing. I fell in love with writing stories about far off lands with unicorns and waterfalls. Where everyone was happy and no one had to worry about stress, money, or going to work.

I created this postcard with my watercolours, a marker and some digital magic. Thanks Mom, I am who I am because of everything you taught me, the good and the bad. And I think you did a pretty damn good job making me a strong, confident woman who feels her abilities are limitless (I am a little biased though).

For those of you interested in the process of creating this card, the image below shows a pencil sketch on the left, an inked final on the right and they are sitting on the watercolour backgrounds in different colours that I used to blend into the background of the final card.
